[ADMINISTRATIVE BUSINESS] Hi, all! A few of our subscribers recently seem to have upgraded to mail software that puts out messages formatted in HTML (i.e., as if designed to be read as a web page). That works great in a controlled environment, such as an office where everyone uses the same mailer. It does not work so well on the Internet, where people out here have systems of all kinds, and may or may not be able to read your message. So, if you can control the behavior of your mailer, please instruct it not to send "styled" or "richly formatted" or "HTML" text. That way, your messages will come through clearly and people will be able to read them even if they are using plain old text-based mailers. I've been manually cleaning them up for the archive, though there is a limit to the amount of time I have for doing such things, and if you can get your mail to come out clean right from the start, it will be best for everyone who tries to read your mail. Thanks -- with happiness for having survived the first week of 1999 so far. --tim o'connor
