I'd be very interested in hearing what anyone thinks
of this book by James Redfield called "The Celestine
Prophecy". From what I understand, it's a pure work of
fiction, yet you wouldn't think so from looking at the
front and back cover.

It's the story about an ancient manuscript dating from
600 B.C. (or B.C.E. to be more politically correct)
that was found in Peru. According to the book, this
manuscript was written in Aramaic (the language of
Jesus and the Old Testament). The local Peruvian
government is zealously trying to suppress its
information to keep it as a national artifact in
obscurity, but people(scientists, priests,
mercenaries, etc...) come from all over the world to
learn about this manuscript and the 9 insights it
contains(sounds a bit like Indiana Jones to me with a
slightly new age twist). I'm up about the 5th insight
and some of them include: the removal of superstitions
as people became disillusioned with religion's
corruption in the medeival era; the belief in all
matter (human, plant, animal, artificial matter,
etc...) being composed of the same energy (the author
draws on Einstein as someone who helped point all this
out along with quantum physics); the belief that all
matter contains an aura(when people debate and argue
with each other, they are feeding off of each other's
aura to try and uplift themselves and drain their
enemy); etc...

As far as I know, no such manuscrip actually exists
and this story seems to be more of an amalgamation of
various religions, philosophies, new age thought,
etc... I don't want to sound like a cultist, but this
book is very addictive and illustrates some very
interesting principles(if you don't want to buy all
the talk about auras, there's other interesting
aspects). So bananafishers, what do you think?
