I think Will is referring to the unending American obsession with
Puritanism and Puritanical behavior. It's annoying to see how the
Times includes with virtually every movie review of a movie intended
for an adult audience a disclaimer listing the supposed "bad" things,
all of which invariably center around either sex (its appearance, its
mention, its inference), nudity, or, less frequently, violence.
Mostly the Puritanical sensibility is obsessive about matters sexual.
It has the effect of infantilizing the readers of the review.

At least, that's how I read what Will was saying.
