Cecilia, yes, "Blue Melody" is not only a fine Salinger story (young,
very underage white boy gets tuned into Jazz and African American
life) but you are right to point to it as a story against
prejudice...and fairly risky for the time...Salinger didn't publish a
great deal but his work really does have cultural "reach" way beyond
adolescence. Thanks for reminding me of that one, will
