In his de haut en bas dismissal of Margaret Salinger's
book, John Gilgun refers twice - sneeringly - to
a certain Barbara Courtland - whom, he nervously
reassures us, he has never read.
I should make it clear that he cannot possibly mean that
lovely writer of lovely romantic novels, Barbara Cartland -
better known to most of us as the grand stepmother
of the late, saintly Diana, Princess of Wales.
