After some of those subscriber comments from the Chirac article, I thought it fair to post an article complimentary of France. The power motif (john o may be able to say that the French live in his world) again:

"Being liked is very important in American culture," Mr. Nadeau said. "Being liked is not important in France. Being appreciated, yes, being in power, being right. But being liked? The French don't like being liked."

(but maybe not)

"Ah, the French, with their disproportionate concern for cuisine and careless attitudes toward the balance of power! Not so long ago, this whimsicality was thought to be charming."

Ah, would that we JDS enthusiasts shared such "careless attitudes toward the balance of power"
