salinger loves literature and despite his
characterization of section men,

This is not a response just a ramble to whoever wants to listen.
What I have been thinking is that maybe Salinger did not lose faith
maybe he gained respect for it being left alone. I have been wondering
why would Salinger seem to study the market so or magazines and editors
and then add his own flavor to Story and Colliers and then just walk
away. Why would a guy just walk out the literary door. Maybe he isn't
losing or leaving anything maybe he is just making the statement that he
will not make writing or literature or the story and all its holiness a
stepping stone. I've had the honor of corresponding with the author
Rudolfo Anaya and he always tells me that he hopes I don't write him to
become famous fast with the stories I write. This made me think of
Salinger. I've always thought Sal walked out on his career but now I
feel that he just decided to not use it anymore. Instead he would just
let it be.

This is probably something everybody on the list already knew but I'm a
little bit late . . .bare with me.

Thanks for listening
