jennifer, I think you are right to consider seymour's context for his
suicide as too hard on muriel--maybe salinger wanted to dramatize their
differences or come down too hard on muriel who must not only wake up to a
dead husband, but whose dream of being "mrs. glass" will forever be
bloodied with an unforgettable reality.  Indeed, is this punishment fair
for someone who is maybe not too smart and a bit too self absorbed?
