A friend and I tried to write the most pedsestrain letter possible to JD,
figuring it might appeal to his Zen sensibilities. I'm sure people try to
send letters all the time that are incredibly smart and witty. We figured
if we could show zero understanding of him as a writer he might take pity
on us and respond. Of course he probably doesn't even read those letters
sent with no real address anyway. We never actually did this of course, it
was just an activity to while away one of our many days in the cafe. It
reminds me of your plans to sell misguided maps to misguided people.

In the book by Kinsella it was Salinger. The reclusive author becomes
funnier and more important with it being JD, than that horrible composite
of Thomas Mann in the movie. ( which I realize isn' t even close to the
Thomas Mann anyway)
