I don't think he suffered from schizophrenia. Schizophrenics suffer from delusions, hallucination (althought he was talking to Allie, I really don't think he was actually SEEING him) "magical" thinking (thinking they are God, they can fly, etc...), paranoia, and Holden, as far as I can see, didn't really suffer from any of these. Not everyone who undergoes psychological therapy is crazy. I think Holden just had a lot to deal with...especially his brother's death, and he couldn't quite handle it on his own. I do think, as you said, that since he's able to write the story, he's getting better. ~Valerie~ P.S.
