I'm delighted along with everyone else on the list to see Lesley back in the daylight after her recent nasty weeks. I'm also delighted to see that her account of the editor's task - as seen from close up - is very much as I should have described it myself. She confirms my earlier assertion that real writers regard their own stuff as inviolable & consent, only with reluctance, to trimming. At no point does she suggest the deep, engaging dialogue that Camille evidently carries on with her advisers. Scottie B.
