Sorry again about posting that. Shortly after I posted that I realized that it was a very insulting, unfair remark, especially since I'm still a teenager myself. It was partly sarcastic though. I meant that a 14-year-old should be questioning enough to recognize a double standard, although, of course, I now realize that Erinn didn't intend to present one. Although you argue you > > > didn't want to be ageist. > > you say > > > After all, they're just college students. I was being sarcastic. Here, I'll be ageist again-aren't college students supposed to be liberals, and Berkeley ones in particular? I had hoped for more than a bunch of affirmative action demonstrations during my first semester and a half. I was mocking the general apathy I came across. I really hope you haven't scared poor Erin off > bananafish because she certainly didn't deserve this tirade which she did > absolutely nothing to consciously provoke ! Again, I hoped I made it clear that I didn't intend to attack Erinn, although that's probably what I wound up doing. Her post may have set me off but I wish I hadn't attacked her personally, just the labeling of Franny as insane. Weren't a few people upset a little while back when I said that Holden might have been schizophrenic? I got similarly upset when Franny was called insane, although I probably defended her in the wrong way. I now strongly believe that both characters were sane, if not "going sane in a crazy world," if I may shove a Tick quote into this post. Enough...I read Nine Stories on Wednesday, and if I may make another gaudy reference to pop culture, it was like hearing Hey Jude for the first time. Cheryl
