In 1988, when LC received an award from Columbia Records (which was not
known for its interest in him or his career), he accepted and drily
remarked, "I have always been touched by the modesty of their interest in
my work." Which seemed to sail over the top of dozens of toupees....

I count myself deeply nested in that camp of Cohen lovers -- and there's
even a Salinger cross-reference, since LC now lives in a Zen monastery in
California, a step Our Man in Cornish has certainly not taken, at least for
any significant length of time. (I cannot imagine Salinger happily arising
at 4 a.m. to make a pot of rice.)
