Paul asked:

<< There's been so much talk of "names" recently, I was wondering
whether
anybody in the room has actually met anybody called HOLDEN.... >>

I've never met anybody called Holden, but two instances of the name
popping up come to mind. There is, I believe, a character called Holden
in a fairly recent Woody Allen movie (_Everyone Says I Love You_, if I'm
not mistaken). And my old English teacher told me that her brother's
middle name is Holden, named, of course, after Catcher. I think it's
also interesting to note that, although she grew up in the states, she's
Japanese, and her parents -- Japanese immigrants -- named their son
after Holden Caulfield. (for some reason, when I imagine someone naming
their kid after Holden Caulfield, I tend to imagine them as being
upper-class white folks, like the parents in the Woody Allen movie.)
