I don't know about the lead paint (which has a lot to be said for it),
but, yes, they are very different. The NYRB is a big paper, about twice
as tall as the NY Times Book Review. It's a lot more, um, intellectual
and still, for instance, features essays about who REALLY won the Cold War.
It also has great letters to the editor, where writers and critics
have catfights-to-the-death over issues most of us would shrug off.

I don't have it with me but I think the cover date is June 21, 2001.
It has it clearly emblazoned on the front cover.

I don't buy it on the newsstands (we get it in the mail), so I don't
know how many weeks ahead it comes in the mail or how early the dates
are on the newsstand in relation to reality....

Good luck finding it. It's well worth the search, I thought.
