As I suspected. My sarcaso-meter has been on the fritz for a while now, I'm
going to have to take it into the shop.

Ooops. If you're taking my post seriously, it's missed its mark. I sort
of fire these off when a moment of spare time appears, so please don't
look too closely at them. In fact, don't even bother reading them.
Bananafishers, please add me to your auto-delete list right now. I'm a
slinger of stray email messages, a defender of aweful books, a teller of
jokes that just aren't funny. If this were Lord of the Flies, Piggy
would have killed me by now.

P.S. I am genuinely curious whether Scottie's ever visited the States,
not because I think that would qualify or disqualify him as an expert on
Yanks, but because I'm just curious about Scottie. And, although he'd
probably rather stay in Riker's Island, my door really is open to him.

Sean-

Either you are taking Scottie way too seriously, or I am taking you way
too
seriously. What gaffe? I thought that bit was pretty funny. And so
what
if he's never been to the U.S.? I've never been to Ireland, so what?
What
with the stench of the super-arrogant that rises off our nation's
foreign
policy, I'm surprised many foreigners aren't actively protesting our
country
(oh, wait, they are), much less just leaving it off their "places to go"

list.

k

Mr. Bowman,
We certainly appreciate your clumsy but well-intentioned
effort to make us feel at home. You might employ the
"hotdog" or "McNugget" to much greater effect in future endeavors of
this sort.

It's embarassing gaffes such as these that reinforce my
thesis, conceived months ago during a heated, almost
violent exchange on the subject of contemporary American politics, that
Mr. Bowman has in fact never actually set foot in the United States.

Well, Scottie, if you should ever decide we Yanks are
worth the visit, you're welcome to stay with me in Seattle anytime.

-Sean

'... Tell me what a vichyssoise is, fine cook ...'

Something unknown, of course, to French cuisine,
but a chilled vegetable conconction contrived, I believe,
by Americans for Americans & introduced here by me
with the sole purpose of putting the Americans on the list
at their ease & unthreatened by too many exotic references.
