My father was rather beyond adolescence in Ireland when war broke out
(he had me quite late in his life, when the U.S. was starting to think
about getting in trouble in Vietnam), and while he and I had more than
our share of disagreements about politics, he hated Hitler and Hitler's
crowd, and did all he could to contribute to their collapse. It was
perhaps one of the rare issues on which he and I would have
unambiguously agreed. I wish there had been more.

Not all the Irish marched to the goose-step at that time.
