Dear Robert, I think one of the thing that makes Catcher a touchstone
for so many of us is that it makes us consider what is phoney in our
lives...people like Chapman or Gilmore or Hinkley can't define what
is phoney or real as well others, but they can use the challenge to
see what is phoney to support their sickness. From my point of view,
it's no different than some crazy guy shooting people and having a
bible in his pocket and claiming that reading an eye for an eye
made him do it. Psychologically sick people may adopt some good forms
wrongly. Think about how many millions of people have read Catcher
and don't pull stunts like Chapman...I"m sorry but I don't think
insane people referencing a widely read book occasionally means that
Catcher is logically linked to their acts. will
