Thanks Pan Gloss! There are certainly paradoxical statements about
Hemingway in Salinger's letters..."Hem" for many writers was a
touchstone. I'm speculating but I think in Salinger's life his
feelings about the author changed from worship to wanting to surpass
an early master...will
