Jim,
I know this is my subjective opinion, but I'm OK with
discussions of literature-related stuff on here
(Beats, Joyce, etc.). But pure political discussions
about Bush or the FBI or Ashcroft or whatever are just
annoying. If your inbox starting filling with
discussions of Indonesian parliamentary elections,
you'd get pretty annoyed eventually, prolly. I do note
that we're not at the "filled up inbox" stage yet, but
we still should be careful. I don't see how saying
"let's be careful" is less appropriate than your more
"anything goes" or "if you can't take the heat" idea.
Anyway, if you want to be able to chat about
"whatever" with list members, why not set up a chat
room, invite bananafishers, and meet there once a
week/month?
Also, I don't buy the "just delete it" defense. What
if the e-mail header is already offensive to someone
(not that any of the recent ones have been), for
example?
Also note that I'm not at all angry or snippy-feeling.
Just curious about the above issues. ;)
In my defense, note that in almost every one of my
messages lately, even about E.H., I try to tie it into
JDS somehow...
