Mike, Mikey, Michael, you made me think a bit. Why do I like it? Would I
like it even if Jerome was not its generator? No, I like it because I like
Philly and I like Philly because of Burke and Juanita. Is it a great story?
No, but I like it never the less, I do not regret reading it. Even if it
were found in a recycling bin with no by line, It would have given me pause.
Sentimental? yes, but that too has given me pause, just like your reply.
The worst thing that can happen to anyone or anything is to call it filler.
Just an attempt to fill you in. Hidden treasure is sometimes camouflaged as
filler, to place something in plain sight with no fanfare and let it live or
die, uncollected and abandoned, does this mean that uncollected means
treasure for the fan? I guess Jerome thought he could do better, and he may
have.
Daniel

work was the wrong word. it was no work. like a filler song on a double
album. you like it because you like the author.

I have no idea of your age, actually I do, somewhere between 7 and a 100,
but I remember childhood with plenty of home crafted toys and of course the
store bought ones. I remember valuing my store bought ones more than the
home crafted ones. I guess that could be considered childish but now the
crafting or manufacture seems to play much more in valuing things now. I
guess it's more the thing itself. I don't know about your writing but I
have a hard time viewing anything I make as strictly a product. I know this
because I write an awful lot of specs, design notes, comments, memos, point
papers, talking papers, briefings, presentations, management plans, letters,
staff summary sheets, action lines, ... ... and editorial changes still give
me pause. Jerome might have needed the bucks, he might have tailored the
story for a magazine but for good or ill, I'll lay money down that it is
much more than that to him. A product, the produce from my labors, we work
in hope that our labors produce fruit, not a mere product. This post still
has lingering dampness from my sweaty grip. I didn't even bother wiping off
the dampness off your post before I responded. Maybe that is where Esme's
liquidy drops come from, not tears but sweat beads.
