Reminds me of the old joke about the devil catching a fart and painting it
green, what color is Jacques?

Michael,

On farts and the limits of ontology, from one of my very favorite books,
here's another J.D. reading Genet:

"The essence of the rose is its nonessence: its odor insofar as it
evaporates. Whence its effluvial affinity with the fart or the belch:
these excrements do not stay, do not even take form. The remain(s)
remain(s) not. Whence its interest, its lack of interest. How could
ontology lay hold of a fart? It can always put its hand on whatever
remains in the john, but never on the whiffs let out by roses."

All the best,

--John
