I knew that was coming. You're nothing if not dependable. But I was being
neither simply "correct" nor elitist (I offered a rousing endorsement of Céline
that very same day, one of the most insensitive and incorrect authors and
individuals I can imagine -- he makes you look like St. Francis). No, I was
simply remarking upon a shudder I felt when I saw the juxtaposition and the
offered discount and thought about Esther and her experiences in the world of
literature and commerce on Madison Ave. that summer that they executed the
Rosenbergs.
