I guess the 'Serious" authorities ought to know, plot? that's for story
telling and we know that serious fiction has little story tell these days.

i think 'plot'--or the insistence upon plot--gave out
a number of decades ago. today's romances need plot;
today's best sellers need plot; but serious fiction
doesn't need plot. (anyway, there is enough plot in
the thing; just a huge number of digressions are also
included.)
