Greetings. Another newbie here.

Am I the only person who did *not* read _Catcher..._ in high school?

I'm 33, and I read it only a few months ago. Then I ran out and
bought all I could find, reading _Franny and Zooey_ next, then
all _Nine Stories_, _Raise High..._, and just last week finished
_Seymour..._. I think it was fortuitous that I saved S:AI for last,
as I had to chew on it quite a bit more than the others.

They've had an interesting effect on me. I'm glad I've read them,
but in in a manner that surely reveals several neuroses, I feel
quite a loss at not having experienced them earlier. I guess I was
too busy partying and hiding from the rest of the world in high
school to seek them out. Maybe I wasn't ready yet. I mean,
I read _Narcissus Und Goldmund_, and a couple of other interesting
things, but they just didn't grab me like Salinger has.

In fact, I only read _Catcher..._ after seeing so many people refer
to it on alt.support.depression.

But the experience may also finally push me to kill my television.
I'd just hate to give up seeing "The Actors' Studio" on Bravo
every week, though.

I also got the *extremely* unusual desire to actually write a
snail-mail letter, with a pen! Didn't do it, though.
