I don't know if this is what you're after, but I recently mentioned two:
On Becoming a Novelist, by John Gardner
and
Narrative Design, by Madison Smartt Bell
(The latter's fiction is definitely worth checking out. Straight Cut is
excellent; so are Waiting for the End of the World and The Year of Silence
-- that last pair to be read in that order for reasons that will be
apparent.)
