The Lardners were of a talented stock, as well. Ring's son, Ring Lardner
Jr. (b. 1915) was a Hollywood publicist turned script doctor who began
having his own screenplays produced in the 1940s. He wrote the acid satire,
Nothing Sacred (1937), the effervescent comedy, Woman Of The Year (1942)
and the noir classic, Laura (1944). One of the "Hollywood Ten," Lardner
served a term in prison before circumventing his blacklisting by using
various pseudonyms. He resurfaced under his own name in the mid-60s with
the excellent drama, The Cincinnati Kid (1965). Brother of writers John,
James and David Lardner. He also won Oscars for the Original Screenplay of
Woman Of The Year and Adapted Screenplay in 1970 for M*A*S*H.
