This just in from my not-always-so-reliable local newspaper, the San
Diego Union-Tribune, Thursday, June 19:

"Word is that a scheduled memorial service at Park Avenue's St.
Bartholomew's Church for J. D. Salinger's literary agent of 50
years, the recently deceased Dorothy Olding, could lure the
reclusive writer from his New Hampshire lair. So loyal was she
that on his request she burned some 500 letters the two had
written."

So. On from that excitement. I own lots of Faulkner but haven't gotten
around to reading any of it since last year in school I read _Sound &
Fury_. Where should I start? And another extraneous question, spurred
by the mention of Ken Kesey: what does everyone think of Robert A.
Heinlein? He used to be a favorite of mine but subtlety is not one of
his redeeming characteristics. But he is very witty.
