Not many people know that, but Sao Paulo is the third largest city
in the world. I'm only mentioning that because I think it is bittrely ironic
that, in a city with 20 million people, more than 3 thousand bars and
restaurants, around 30 huge shopping malls, I can't find ONE single
bookstore that can sell me an English edition of any of Salinger's works!
As a matter of fact, all I could ever find was the portuguese
version of the Catcher. Nothing against the portuguese language, quite the
contrary, it is actually the most poetical and literary language one can
ask for (true story!) but I don't trust translations.
"Bananafish" was so surprisingly amazing that I DO want to read ALL
about the Glass family and everything else, for that matter. If any of you
guys can help me out....
Have any of you bought the "Esquire" magazine this month? It has a
cover article on Salinger. I had to buy it, spent all my money on it (it
costed me the terrifying amount of U$7,50!!). I thought it was a good
article, though. Definitely enligtening for a clueless little girl such as
myself.
