<DELURKING>
   A minor mystery...if "William Wharton" was indeed born in
1925, how could he have been wounded as a captain in WW2?
Rather young for an officer, especially one who must have
gotten two promotions from 2nd Lt.
   It's not fiction, but the most powerful book that I've
read for a long time is _The Long Walk_ by Slavomir Rawicz,
the true story of a Polish cavalry officer who was
imprisoned by the Soviets and then escaped and walked 2,000
miles across Siberia, Mongolia, the Gobi desert and Tibet
with almost no supplies.

Hoping that S. will finally publish more,
