This is somewhat true, though have you read Mother Night? Easily Vonnegut's
best (it actually surpasses Slaughterhouse Five.) This one seems a real high
point for Vonnegut. For those that have a problem with the SF, this one is
written without any science fiction elements. The protagonist is an American
who became a Nazi propagandist in the second World War. Vonnegut treads a
very fine ledge for the entirety of this book but never stumbles. Like
Salinger, Vonnegut shows himself to be a deceptively simple writer. The
thematic and philosophical richness of this book alone should catapult him
onto any major 20th century authors list.
