Edward Hopper is one of my favourite artists. Have you seen an old movie called `Pennies from Heaven' (not the one made in the 50's but a remake in the mid 80's starring Steve Martin)? I caught it on cable and it is shot exactly like a Hopper painting - the colour, composition etc - to the point where some paintings are actually exactly reproduced. It's worth a look if you haven't seen it. David Lynch's recent film `Lost Highway' also has some *very* Hopperlike frames. I do agree with you though - I can definitely see Holden chowing down a swiss cheese (on Rye???) in the Nighthawks in the diner cafe! Someone to play Holden is one of the most difficult questions. Holden is 17 > while all the new young actors are about 20. I would have thought someone like > Edward Norton would be great as Holden, or even, a younger Vince Vaughn. But I > think DiCaprio would have been great, before he became less exclusive with R+J > and Titanic. Now he's too much of a star to pull it off correctly. What about > Ethan Hawke? But they're all too old, you would have to find a new face in the > crowd, someone fresh, someone very talented. A friend of mine suggested River Phoenix which I thought was a great idea (although sadly impossible now of course). In `A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon' (not as bad a movie as you've probably heard) he plays a very Holdenish character. My vote still goes to the guy with the grey hair on Eerie Indiana (a very weird cable kid's show from a couple of years back.I think the guy's on Star Trek now). The real challenge would be finding a kid to play Phoebe who wasn't a complete Hollywood brat (: Camille verona_beach@geocities.com @ THE ARTS HOLE www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Theater/6442
