Here's a short reply to several people who responded to my little jab at Will for the post he wrote about his boasting about an early edition book of Salinger......following it, is a question about Salinger and Eastern philosophy. On Wed, 3 Jun 1998, Robert Morris wrote: > Andrew you should read things more closely. Will stated that this was ten > times what he paid for his. I suppose that you are one of many who were seemingly so very upset about my inaccurate mathematical calculations......... Sometimes the internet is a frusterating medium, for, in real life, I think, all of you woulda known that it was meant to be a half joke. For, I like Will's post for this reason, I think he realized the true nature of my post... It's very unSalingerian, and I think Will realized as much, to boast about much of anything. Your clarifications about my post that followed, were much appreciated. I suppose I am a little on the sensitive side about mischaracterizations of Chomsky, as he is so often unfairly attacked and depicted (i.e. the book entitled "The Secret Alliances of Chomsky", what crap), and sometimes is even ignored simply because he is radical and different from the narrow AmeriKKKan mainstream. So, I felt the need to point out some facts about the guy and depict him as accurately as possible. :shrugs: (hey Malcs, I responded to your request for me to write about Chomsky in your new zine, check your e-mail and stuff, bro) "Capitalist Pig!" ravings? Hmmmmmmm. I didn't think I came close to raving about my hatred for the oppressive economic system of capitalism. I had, hmmm, about a year ago perhaps? But that was probably before you were even on this list and was way back in the day when Stephen Foskett (spelling?) ran this list and was also when I posted under a different E addy/pseudonym. In any case, if you are indeed one of the many who are struggling to make ends meet, perhaps you should worry less about my anger for capitalism, and concern yourself more with the possibility of exploring alternative ways of thinking as well as supporting and being active in trying to change society somewhat, so that it would not burden the masses as much as it does now, soley for the pleasures and comforts of the upper crust of society. For, I feel that it is the logical thing to do as much..........but then again, I'm not as accepting/tolerant as other people are, of oppression of themselves and others. :shrugs again: Anyhow, anybody on this list planning on catching Free Tibet this weekend? I was gonna go, but the forecast seems shitty, so I decided to do a no go on it. However, if somebody is going, be sure to write me about how it went, I'd be curious to find out as much. FINALLY, I was wondering.....................which Salinger work do any of you feel most depicts his obvious sympathies for Eastern philosophical thinking? I was thinking maybe 'Teddy' did in 'Nine Stories', but I'd be interested to find out what other people thought. Please reply to this inquiry! =) Ok, I'm done. Have a great weekend, all. =) --AK
