Hello, all... I just got back from a trip to Estes Park, Colorado. As I do everywhere I go, I looked in all of the bookstores, new and used, in town. In one used bookstore, I found a hardcover copy of _The Catcher in the Rye_. It was in the section marked "autographed," and I nearly had a heart attack. Thumbing through it, I realized that it was not autographed after all, but the copy was printed in 1951 and has a picture of Salinger on the back (the carrousel horse on the front). It's a book-of-the-month club book. It was in great shape, and since _Catcher..._ is one of my absolute favorite books, I bought it...The bookstore owner even gave me a ten percent discount because she said she was impressed that someone my age (19) even read Salinger. With the discount, I paid $9 for the book. According to a friend of mine, there are only two editions of _Catcher..._ that have Salinger's picture on the back...the first edition, and the book-of-the-month club edition...He said the first edition is worth somewhere around $8000 and that the edition I have is worth only slightly less....Did I really buy an $8000 book for $9? If anyone has any information on this edition, I would really appreciate it... ~Valerie~ BTW....Salinger wasn't a bad-looking guy in his younger days *s* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
