The "significance" of who Holden may or may not be talking to. . .eh,
that remains to be seen wtih me.  I looked over the text and drew  my own
conclusions based upon some pretty strong evidence.

But Holden speaking to "me"?  Or to "his readers"?  I don't think so.  I
think Holden cares about Holden, for the most part, and I don't think he
cares at all about his readers as readers.  I think when he considers his
"readers' " expectations for him he pretty much chooses to ignore them :)
 He's telling his story to serve his own purposes, not ours.  If we
happen to identify with him, well, that's an Us issue, not a Holden issue
;)
