Jim:
"But when he took his first step he fell flat on his face. It was a farce
about revamping the military's policies about homosexuality. Soon after
that
came the farce called National Health Care. Whether you agree with his
stand
on these issues or not, there was no way in Hell he was ever going to pull
those off. He wound up with a compromise with the military that managed to
piss everyone off, and wound up losing Congress to the Republican Party for
the first time in 40 years."

I'll agree that all these things did happen, but I don't see any of them as
Bill's failures.

* 'Don't ask don't tell' was a brilliant way to sneak progress past the
military
conservatives. It's no longer illegal to be a gay soldier. My guess is that
it will soon no longer be illegal to tell either. Bill has stood up for gay
and lesbian employment rights. A president looking out for homosexuals? This

would have been unthinkable in the 80's.

* Bill had the balls to attempt massive healthcare reform. Others can learn
from his efforts. This will make improvements it easier to implement in
the future.

* Best of all, Bill established, finally, that Americans don't and shouldn't
care about their leader's sex lives. And wow, he even has a sex life.

Al Gore doesn't have Bill Clinton's charm. No one does. But I think he'll
get by just fine without it. He's certainly much smarter than anyone else
in the race, with the possible exception of Bill Bradley.
