Subject: Louise is not half bad

Jim, and all,
As one who has enjoyed Louise's thoughtful posts and lovely prose
(what was that recent line, "It's like looking in a mirror and trying
not to catch sight of yourself") I have to wonder if the fascination
with her identity is worth the risk. Sure, the "clues" were suggestive,
and yes, the recent confession of unrequieted love was carefully
crafted to tickle Camille, should she be hiding here, but I am thinking
of what the impression it must be making on Louise if we are wrong.
It must feel foolish to have to try live up to not being somebody else,
or frustrating to have to prove your own identity. Perhaps not everyone
is able to recognize a tongue planted inside a cheek, when it seems
that so many are being stuck out at them.
If we "prove" that she is Camille in disguise, what do we win? Yet
if we are wrong and only alienate a fine contributor, it is obvious
what we have lost. I have to admit that I have a recent email from
her, which I have permission to disclose, in which she voiced
her frustration, and I will gladly agree to any accusations that this
post is a blatant, selfish attempt to convince her not to leave this list.
all the best,
Mattis
