I know what the problem is.

Louise Rovira was one of Henry Wallace's most vociferous
supporters. Cigar-smoking, beautiful, witty - her normally
salty language turning distinctly blue when expressing her
more extreme anti-clerical views - Louise broke many
a Progressive heart. And there were, of course, rumours
of shadier entanglements. For example, during his period
in detention Alger Hiss received every month a large cake
with the initials L.R. scrolled in pink icing & registering
mysteriously on the prison metal detector.

The only criticism ever voiced among the comrades was
that in her ardour, Louise was inclined to neglect her infant
son Jim, a sensitive little lad who was often left alone
in the apartment to browse the religious tracts which
Louise kept as ammunition in her unending war against
the church. Louise unloaded her child as soon as she could
& nothing was ever heard of him thereafter.
