Nope. Some people may use mailers that generate more than plain text
(e.g., HTML or some other "rich" text). The list sends out plain text.
The only exception would be if someone added an attachment of a non-text
file. If you were one of the recipients of the "Pretty Park" file,
please trash your copy; it's a computer worm (similar to a virus).

When I saw the opening of "Saving Private Ryan," I thought: This is
what makes a "Sgt. X" exist. Though I believe there were a few other
prominent writers who made the landing, some as reporters, some as
observers, some as dogfaces (cf. one of the "missing" stories, "Death of
a Dogface). I know that The New Yorker had someone very good who went
in on a landing craft, though his name escapes me now.

It's along the same lines as the sound of one hand clapping, I think.

My mailer shows this as completely plain text (albeit with long, wrapped
lines). Anyone else get strange special effects?

Oh, it's "OSR": Obligatory Salinger Reference. A kind of
tongue-in-cheek reminder, usually tossed in after an off-topic post. It
derives from the days on the Internet when rabid purists would froth at
the sight of a new person in some forum posting messages that had
nothing to do with the subject of the list/newsgroup/whatever.
