hey everybody,
i just subscribed so i figured i may as well introduce myself. i'll try to keep it at a respectable length if i can, since there seems to be soooo much to read (not a bad thing by the way)
my name's kate, i'm a sophmore in highschool, and my wonderful amazing english teacher is the one i credit for introducing me to salinger.
the second to last day of class he read us "a perfect day for bananafish" and told us it was his favorite short story, i absolutely loved it (one of the few in the class that did) and i made him let me borrow nine stories for the weekend. well after that i was pretty much hooked. the first thing i did was email him and ask what i should read next. i was told to go steal a copy of "catcher", stay up all night, and get on with it.
anyway, i actually ended up reading "RHTRBC and S:AI" next, then "catcher" and finally "F & Z" and i loved them all. so basically it's been about two and a half months since i first heard of JDS and i'm just a regular addict now.
i agree with whoever said that you should read them in the order that they fall into your lap, i didn't nessicarily fully understand "bananafish" that first time, but the great thing about it was that Matteau (oh yeah, that's my english teacher, Mr. Matteau) pretty much left it open for interpretation and tried to let us get our own opinions. so i read it again (after reading "teddy" which did help me a bit) and loved it even more.
well this has gotten long enough, there's plenty of other posts to sift through so i'll shut up now.
