In Seymour an Intro, here's what he's doing:
Buddy must portray Seymour as the "contemporary saint." You see Seymour
himself is somewhat of a transcended human being(one of his problems when it
comes to adjusting) he is beyond physical. Seymour is the spiritual activist
hero, he dose not work to alter or change his situation, rather, he
transcends it. For Buddy to accurately describe Seymour as the "egoless,"
self without a self, he must create a literary environment in which he can
construct Seymour before our eyes. That's what makes describing Seymour so
difficult for Buddy, he must describe a non-man. Seymour as a being is beyond
the means by which humans use to evaluate each other. Anyway, I liked it.
