Consider Sergeant X, who "hadn't the courage" (114) to wind Esme's father's
watch to listen for the sound of the second hand clapping.

Also, in PM&GME, Lee "straightened his back and placed the flat of his free
hand on the top of his head" (126) while he listened to Arthur fall to
pieces on the phone.
