Come, come, Paul. Surely you realize that "p.p.s" stands for "Paul's
post script". But I guess a little silliness on my part is not
going to refill the fish bowl with stimulating discussion,
other than Tim's direct hit.
I do wonder, Nathalie, why you thought Seymour might have written
the poem at age two. To tell you the truth, my email program truncates
long subject lines in the message list so I didn't notice this remark
at first, so I hope you don't mind me bringing it up now.
Perhaps you simply are implying that his skills as a (phantom) poet
are so great that even a young age he could have turned out such a lovely
poem. But I do not get the feeling from Hapworth that the young
(even though raunchy) fellow could have felt those pangs for a beautiful
girl he'd never meet. I think the Seymour whom we meet with Sybil
would have been just as happy to be in love with the nameless
smearer of egg-salad as if he had kissed the soles of her (fat?) feet.
Only the Seymour with yellow stains from Charlotte's dress is our
man, perhaps [here the author of this email has to overcome the
need to explain and make it sound profound, so he going to trust
that you understand, because it isn't really that profound].
all the best,
Mattis
