I don't think that "The Inverted Forest" is about Ford. It's actually about
the narrator, the guy who Corinne works with, who physically appears in the
story somewhere around once. The story is about how much he cares for
Corinne, how much pain he goes through because of what she does & what
happens to her, and, in a larger sense, it's about loving without having the
love reciprocated.

I do agree that women are usually used as window dressing in dad's work,
though. Maybe he has an issue with his feminine side.
