It is when I encounter things such as these that I remember just why it is that I think you are terrific, Monsieur Poissonhomme.

You are, of course, right. My examples, with the possible exception of the elder Glasses, didn't fit what you said. Enduring love. Perhaps it's because it's so rare to find such a thing that we have difficulty believing that it exists. Certainly it's not the norm in American society. I have difficulty believing in it when it's portrayed. When I see such relationships in fiction or on screen, I keep expecting someone to die.

Perhaps Scottie is right in his analysis. Perhaps it's an American thing. Because I'm having difficulty coming up with very many examples that refute his argument.
