Sorry Scottie, you're right, I wasn't nice in my response. I'm not
excusing myself but I was disappointed in your response to the
NYTimes story about the troubled boy genius (or fake genius).
Nonetheless, you give this list too much and I was wrong to respond
as I did.

I had hoped to engage Scottie's psychiatric background and all of us
in speculating about connections between the nytimes story and
Seymour or Teddy. I was thrilled at the idea of a real life event
reflecting aspects of Salinger's fiction so interestingly and
surprised the list wasn't as excited.

I wondered if the mother claimed faking her son's test scores to get
him off the hook. Teddy would understand. I wondered if the boy
genius and his single mother withered for lack of siblings "family
classmates." I wondered about the boy...he's smart, troubled, and
right now adults in his world are terrifically mucking up his life in
ways that would shatter most of us...

I was edgy and not as respectful of Scottie as I like to be...for
that I'm sorry to him and to all, will
