to salinger's consternation, it *was* republished
(before the famous pirating). in 1961, in the
original venue, 'cosmopolitan'.

i think of all his underpublished stories, this might
be one he might have wished he *never* published.

yes, i agree. and doesn't waner warn her off of ford
when he tells her ford couldn't possibly love her
because--get this--to write the type of poetry ford
does (and waner calls ford a combo of coleridge, blake
and rilke) ford would have to be the biggest
psychopath imaginable.
