Thanks Tim,

It's good to find someone who has read Fante. The only people I know that
read him are my friends, and I'm responsible for that. His rediscovery by
Bukowski is quite the tale. Thankfully we are all now able to pick up his
work anywhere. It seems a huge re-rediscovery is only a matter of time.

I agree with you that John Fante is incredibly underrated and ripe
for a discovery that seems underway -- now that his work is being
republished in good, sturdy, paperbacks.

I'm not aware of a mailing list that discusses his work, and that is a
shame, I think, because his work is enormously fertile and ready for
that rediscovery that seems to be underway.

Another writer I love who does not seem to be the subject of a list is
Raymond Chandler. His popular image is as a pulp writer. In reality he
was an erudite stylist and his Marlowe books are phenomenal. Even when
he was ailing (from the bottle, from his lifestyle, and eventually from
age), he still constructed masterful narratives.

Fante, well, you see him reliving childhood scenes, for instance, and
it's just -- perfect. Anyone else a fan of his many works of fiction?

Anyhow, there need not be a list for everything. We'd have no time to
read if all we did was join lists!
