inverted forest

 
my apologies if someone already mentioned this, but i came across this
in my readings:
 
"When Cosmopolitan was getting ready to reprint 'The Inverted Forest,'
an early Salinger story which the magazine owned but which Salinger
would like to disown, one of the editors was astounded one evening to
have the author call on him; he pleaded, politely and pleasantly, that
the story should not be published. (As it happened, it was.) Attempts
to unearth his old stories often seem to irritate him." - Grunwold
