I've really appreciated the response I've gotten to my question as to
whether or not John is a phony/hippocrite for saying he's atheist, etc.,
etc., but my main purpose for posting that message was to find out what the
hell Hotspur was thinking when he maintained that Salinger was in Paris
during the '20s (b.1919-I don't think so). I regret to say that I haven't
recieved any reply from him, either as a response over the mailing list or
through direct e-mail.

Hotspur, seeing as how I don't know you, I think it is only fair to
apologize if my mailing offended you. After all, not everyone here knows
absolutely everything about Salinger, nor should we. However, I would be
interested in a response to my previous posting. I'll be waiting.

Ob Salinger: Can anyone here stand another quote which I dug up during
research?

Kay Boyle on The Catcher In The Rye: "Now that we are in the midst of the
student revolution for which his book was the White Paper, I feel that his
book will now grow rather than diminish in importance in our literature."

Does anyone know what she means by "White Paper?" Also: *Factoid*
Catcher is ranked 3rd in poll of top 20 post-war novels, and is the 8th
most frequently challenged book in U.S. today. Censorship once again rears
its ugly head.

Janet :)
